Billy Duncan was born on Inverway Station in the Northern Territory in 1947. He has four children, two girls and two boys.

Billy worked firstly as a ringer then stockman on Inverway, Nicholson, Kirkimbie and Mistake Creek Stations. After an accident during his stock work days, an injury to his knee forced Billy to change to working on farms in the area.

He is of Jaru (desert) skin, however his medium is ochre. He paints the country where he worked as a stockman, but now resides in Kununurra.

Billy has been painting for approximately ten years – his works are well executed, and he completes both landscape and clever dot art pieces. He has endless stories and vast expanses of land yet to paint.

His paintings are much sought after and are included in major corporate and private collections – he is one of the few ochre dot art specialists executing this amazing technique – finest dot art in natural ochres.
